Parent Support Programming at Johnson County Mental Health Center
Supporting caregivers is essential to helping children thrive. Johnson County Mental Health Center’s (JCMHC) Parent Support Programming empowers caregivers with the tools, education, and confidence needed to support their child’s mental health journey. Through individualized support, groups, and classes, we focus on strengthening relationships, building skills, and connecting families to resources that foster growth and stability.

Program Information

Services include diagnosis education, parenting strategies, crisis planning, strengthening parent-child relationships, caregiver self-care, and connecting families with community resources. Caregivers begin with an assessment using a parent skills inventory, which helps tailor services to their specific needs. Offerings may include one-on-one support, support groups, Parent Connect, Parenting Skills Class, and Sibling Connect.

Program outcomes include increased collaboration, empowerment, and self-efficacy; reduced self-blame and family isolation; and a greater appreciation for self-care. Progress is measured throughout the program using the same skills inventory completed at the start.

By emphasizing family involvement and an attachment-focused approach, JCMHC equips caregivers with practical strategies and lasting support systems. Our goal is to strengthen family autonomy and promote long-term stability—recognizing that when caregivers have the right tools, children have the best opportunity to thrive.

Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or those supporting someone in crisis are encouraged to call our 24-hour crisis line at 913-268-0156.
